Bin Salman has been hiding since Jeff Bezos phone hacking scandal
Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman has disappeared from view and has not appeared in official activities since the scandal of his involvement in the piracy of the President of Amazon and the owner of the Washington Post, Jeff Bezos, broke out.
And the severe confusion on the authority of Bin Salman in how to deal with limiting the spread of the piracy scandal attributed to the Crown Prince and its repercussions on further deteriorating his image internationally.
Bin Salman has been absent from any official activities for days, and his last announced activity was on the 12th of this month when he received Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.
Jeff Bezos phone piracy scandal continues to escalate in the international media.
In the latest development, the British newspaper “Daily Mail” reported that measures were taken to protect the phone of British Prime Minister Boris Johnson from penetration through “WhatsApp” messages bearing the emojis “Emoji”, which was sent to him by Bin Salman frequently.
The newspaper said that Johnson had been in regular contact with Bin Salman through “WhatsApp”, after they exchanged numbers while he was foreign minister.
She pointed out that Bin Salman’s use of “emoji” constantly confused Johnson and his team, adding that security sources said that the level of contact between the Saudi crown prince and Johnson was “disturbing”, and that the current relations with the kingdom are “being evaluated” strongly, due to Bin Salman’s behavior.
“The officials refused to say whether Johnson’s phone had been examined by the security services, but other sources confirmed that all appropriate measures had been taken to protect his phone,” the newspaper continued.
Last Wednesday, investigators Anais Calamard, the UN Special Rapporteur on extrajudicial executions, and David Kay, the UN Special Rapporteur on Freedom of Expression, issued a statement, in which they referred to the involvement of Bin Salman in the process of penetrating Jeff Bezos’ phone, noting that “these allegations require immediate investigation From the United States and other relevant authorities.”
“The timing of pirating the Bezos phone supports an investigation into allegations that Bin Salman ordered or instigated the murder of Khashoggi,” the statement said.
He pointed out that “the program that Bin Salman used to pirate the Bezos phone is the Israeli (Pegasus) program,” revealing that “the month in which the Bezos phone was hacked is the same as the phones of two of Khashoggi’s close associates.”
Meanwhile, Democratic Senator Ron Wyden, a Democrat, said he had sent a letter to the National Security Agency to request an assessment of the danger to White House officials who communicated with bin Salman with letters on their personal phones.
Weiden refers explicitly to Jared Kushner, the president’s adviser, because of his strong personal relationship with the Saudi crown prince, and adds that “the Saudi crown prince arrives at Jared Kushner’s phone.
Senator Wyden’s warnings were preceded by Senator Chris Murphy and Senator Chris Kunz, and they see that Kushner’s and Ben Salman’s relationship carries with it a threat to US national security given the reports that the two men communicate through WhatsApp.
On Thursday, the White House said it was taking seriously reports of the Bezos phone being hacked.
In a related context, the British newspaper “The Guardian” quoted the UN investigator for extrajudicial killings, Agnies Calamar, her determination to uncover phone leads, the founder of the Amazon website and the owner of the Washington Post, Jeff Bezos.
Kalamar said that her desire to reveal this issue stems from her desire to show who is of strategic importance to the Saudi regime.
Kalamar has previously said that the circumstances surrounding the Bezos phone piracy operation are at the heart of the investigations into the killing of Jamal Khashoggi, noting that piracy took place at a time when Khashoggi was writing articles critical of the Saudi authorities.
It started in April 2018 when Bezos attended a dinner party with the Crown Prince and exchanged numbers. Then – specifically in May of the same year – Bezos received an encrypted video file sent from the Saudi Crown Prince’s WhatsApp account, followed by the start of leaking huge amounts of data From the Bezos phone.
Bezos then said that he received WhatsApp messages from Muhammad bin Salman containing private and confidential information about his personal life, according to what was reported by the media between November 2018 and February 2019, the period that followed the murder of Khashoggi.
In January 2019, the National Inquirer began publishing private conversations with Bezos that were leaked from his phone, and brought him together with his former broadcaster girlfriend, Fox TV, Lauren Sanchez.
One month before the private messages were leaked, Jeff’s wife Mackenzie Bezos announced that she was planning to divorce, confirming that they had been separated for a long time.
