Protests chase the Saudi Foreign Minister in Berlin
Dozens of activists protested at the Munich Security Conference headquarters the participation of officials from the Saudi regime and the United Arab Emirates, in light of the black rights record of the two countries.
The protestors gathered opposite to the Hotel “Bayerischer Hof” in central Munich, which hosts the activities of the Munich Security Forum with wide international participation.
The protesters criticized the participation of Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah, the Saudi Foreign Minister and Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Anwar Gargash at the international conference, in light of the two countries’ involvement in war crimes against civilians in Yemen.
The protesters circulated photos of the victims of the Saudi-Emirati coalition war on Yemen, especially children and civilians, and other written statements condemning the crimes of Riyadh and Abu Dhabi and calling for an international boycott.
The protesters also chanted slogans against Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates and the war crimes they committed, as evidenced by the reports of the United Nations and international human rights organizations, and demanded that the two countries be held accountable for their crimes.
In the context, human rights activists organized a protest campaign on the sidelines of the Munich International Security Conference calling for the trial of Emirati and Saudi officials for war crimes in Yemen and Libya.
The event was highlighted by placing banners on taxis, demanding the trial of Emirati and Saudi officials, as they roamed the streets of the German capital, Berlin.
Pictures of the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, the de facto ruler of the Emirates, Mohammed bin Zayed, and the Saudi Crown Prince, Mohammed bin Salman, were written below: “Stop the war criminals now.”
The protest coincided with the launch of the activities of the 56th edition of the Munich Security Conference with the record participation of world decision-makers. The conference will discuss security and foreign policy issues in addition to a number of developments in the global landscape.
This year’s session witnessed the participation of more than five hundred figures, including heads of state, heads of government, defense and foreign ministers, and senior leaders.
The Munich conference is considered one of the largest and most important conferences that discuss security policy in the world, during which hundreds of decision-makers from different countries of the world and in various security, political and military fields meet to discuss the conditions of the world and the challenges they face at various levels.
The conference is held annually and lasts for three days, and it has shifted from focusing on defense issues only to a forum for politicians, diplomats and researchers.
The Munich Security Conference was founded in 1963 by German researcher Ewald von Kleist.
For decades, the conference passed through several stations and stages, and it bore multiple names, including “The International Meeting for Defense Sciences, the International Conference for Defense Sciences” before it became under its current name.
