Saudi Tweeters launched an online campaign in which they expressed their anger at the high unemployment rate in the Kingdom.
The campaign came in response to a Saudi newspaper, which claimed its low rate in the Kingdom.
They tweeted by tagging the unemployment rate in Saudi Arabia, referring to the worsening crisis of the Kingdom, the spread of unemployment and poverty, in addition to the deteriorating conditions of the Saudis.
The Saudi Al-Eqtisadiah newspaper claimed a decrease in Saudis’ unemployment rate by the end of the fourth quarter of the last year 2020 to 12.6%, compared to 14.9% at the end of the third quarter of the same year.
Al-Eqtisadiah newspaper claimed that this rate is the best since the first quarter of 2020.
According to the newspaper, this reflects a partial financial recovery from the repercussions of COVID-19, but the impact of the pandemic is still present.
Recently, Business Day highlighted the rise in unemployment in Saudi Arabia in light of the failure of Vision 2030, long promoted by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.
Business Day said that job creation is the biggest challenge for bin Salman, with unemployment reaching record rates in the Kingdom of more than 15%.
These figures for unemployment are announced by the Saudi authorities and are believed to be much higher, especially among graduates.
Without fundamental change, the problem is expected to worsen as the demographic boom of youth flows into the labour market, increasing the potential for social instability as frustrations mount.
